Millersville University is using the ILLiad API to allow known users to submit some requests directly from discovery into ILLiad in a single click. Using OpenAthens (any SAML service will do) to support a single sign on approach to accessing library resources and services, Millersville is utilizing simple EBSCO custom-link logic in conjunction with the ILLiad API to allow users to place requests into ILLiad. All users will be able to avoid logging into ILLiad and in many cases have their request submitted without seeing a pre-populated ILLiad submission form. In use cases where the library is confident that bibliographic data is sufficiently robust or where custom-link logic can determine that appropriate metadata elements are present to process a request, the user facing “request it” link will simply take the metadata, the user’s username (passed via a live SAML authentication token) and place the request into ILLiad. Learn how Millersville is taking a tiered approach to single-click request submission that is “un-reviewed” by patrons prior to submission and how the API can address “first time” users of ILLiad without an extant ILLiad account. A moderate understanding of terminology will be expected, but this is not an in-depth technical presentation.
