Access for All: A Call for Standardizing Accessibility Workflows in ILL

This session will discuss a survey conducted of ILL practitioners to gauge awareness and attitudes towards services for students with disabilities, coupled with an evaluation of the accessibility of ILL documents delivered to SUNY Purchase Library from our ILL lending partners via the A11y plugin for Moodle. Based on this research, a recommendation is made to revisit the American Library Association US Interlibrary Loan Code to incorporate best practices for creating accessible documents. Currently, the Code offers no guidance on this subject. However, as more students entering post-secondary education identify as having some sort of disability, this important, proactive, revisit needs to take place. It is essential, as document providers, that we make the materials we digitize for others as universally accessible as possible.
